Hi everyone, I was just diagnosed with Herpes today, and I clearly see that I'm not alone.

I guess I'm just frustrated because I always thought i was being safe. I limited partners, I'm 26 and have only had 5 partners (significantly less than most of my friends) and I made them use condoms. I only had unprotected sex 1 time, but that was almost 10 years ago, so isn't it unlikely I contracted it from him?

I was celibate for over a year until about 2 months ago I started dating a wonderful guy, the healthiest relationship I've been in yet. Now, I am 2 days into my initial OB. I told my boyfriend about everything and the doctor that tested me told me that statistically he was probably the one that gave me this. But I have read about other cases where it lay dormant, so I'm not sure if that's my case yet. I was wondering if a blood test would give me more info? I only had a culture test at a walkin but I have an appointment Friday at Planned Parenthood to discuss my future treatment, so I was wondering if I should get a blood test too?

I guess I'm also really nervous about if my boyfriend tests negative. So far he seems pretty supportive and has said that if he is negative, he wanted to stay with me anyway, but I'm not sure.

I also keep obsessing on if I didn't get it from my current boyfriend, who did I get it from? I guess it shouldn't matter so much, because I have it and can't change it.

Anyways, just thought I'd post my story and offer my support as much as I can in my early diagnosis. It seems like there is alot of wonderful people in this group.

You could have had it for years. Know what? Some people never have outbreaks which isn't fair but maybe you have a good immune system. We're you stressed when you broke out? I always try to avoid stress for that reason lol. Stop worrying sweetie what's done is done and we are happy you are here!!! If you need anything or have any questions we are here Hun :) hope your outbreak gets better they are a pain in the booty (literally lol)

Thank you Missmya. Ironically, I've been at the relatively lowest point of stress for myself in the last 3 years. During the past 3 years, my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer, my mom had heart failure, so i dramatically changed my career (for worse) in order to stay close to them and have been helping take care of them.

Ironically, I thought things were turning around for me and getting better then bam! Initial outbreak. It is so terrible, I've had all the flu symptoms, been exausted, aches in my legs and back, headachey, swollen glands, not to mention what's going on with the sores. They say the first is the worst and I hope that's right haha. Thank you for responding!!!

I promise the first is the worst! I just had my 2nd outbreak (first one was sooo bad I had 10 sores) I only had one sore that healed within a couple days and it was just really itchy lol. I'm sorry to hear about your parents but you made the right choice by being near them :) make sure to go buy some Lysine supplements they help with herpes so much...you can also crush them up mix them with water and apply to the sores with cotton balls :) keep them dry too. Good luck in everything sweetie

Thank you for the advice and comforting words! I have repeatedly read about Lysine helping so I'm going to try that as well as seeing my options for suppression therapy. I'm glad to hear that your 2nd outbreak wasn't so serious!

MsJane, sorry to hear about your hsv. But you're in the right place. This support group really helps. And yes, I would get the IgG blood test done. Make sure you ask for type specific. From what I've learned if the numbers come back really high this means you've had it for a while (correct me if I'm wrong you guys). I had to get an order for the test from my primary doctor. Nobody else (including my gynocologist) would give it to me since I hadn't had an outbreak. My Planned Parenthood doctor was an idiot too. Gave me all kind of wrong information. So do some research.

The blood tests actually checks for antibodies your immune system builds up to fight the virus.

NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!!

Hey Wozza, I understand how you're feeling. I've been trying to tell myself, "will knowing who gave this to me really change anything?" and I know the answer is no, but I think it's only natural for it to be concerning. You said you are married. Have you talked to your partner? I hope that goes okay for you! That was very difficult for me.

Hi This is Hard, thanks for the useful info. I was trying to figure out the tests searching online, but I figured I'd ask people who'd been through it. My Planned Parenthood is pretty good, a lot of young, fresh doctors who seem pretty well informed, so I'll see how my visit goes. (I chose there because it is pretty difficult to get into see my primary doctor and I wanted to get some answers asap).
