Infectious Disease Specialist

Posted in Group:

Okay Club H members....went to an Infectious disease Specialist today. To ask questions and get answers. it went something like this...

She said there is no way to definitely know when you got it because everyone's body produces antibodies at a different level. Cant go by the antibody levels to determine when you contracted it.

There are two different types of tests...there is one that lumps 1 and 2 into the same test...if they do that you will show positive for both...if they do the other they can pinpoint exactly which one. (of course i dont know which one they did on me. :s)

She says that all the stuff i call 'symptoms' are not hsv symptoms. The white bumps on my lips, the chapped lips, the itching, the genital itching...i know, i know...i disagree too...too many of us are having those issues for it not to be symptoms.

She said the maximum dose of valtrex is 1 gram 2 x day. She says i have to stop doubling it right now. If i have 'real' symptoms...ulcers or cold sores we will reassess the meds issue.

And if i have a blister or ulcer she wants to culture it immediately.

Chance of passing it to uninfected partner? No definitive percentage. Perhaps 10%? It depends on the body's response to the valtrex. And since my partner was married to someone with hsv he probably has it anyway.

I hear people talk about every day meds but my doctor has only given me an antibiotic, no meds or cream. Every day is painful and pure hell. After learning about daily meds I contacted my doctor and even though she is an ob/gyn she is transferring me to a planned parenthood clinic for treatment. Is this normal? What can I do to ease the pain while waiting for an appointment?

Curiosity: Did you have any kind of infection with your outbreaks? because antibiotics won't do anything for this. Herpes is a virus....antibiotics are for bacterial infection.

A gynecologist would normally know how to treat an STD, could send you for a blood test and certainly could give you a Valtrex dosage to help you with your pain!!

The parenthood clinic will be a good source of information and help for you but I hope for your sake that you can go there very shortly. Any family doctor or any doctor in a walk-in clinic could help you also.

Overwhelmed: So was it worth the visit? She says your symptomes are not herpes symptomes but doens't say what it is...you think it's herpes. Kind of back to square one.

My doctor also had told me if I feel something down there, if it's not a sore with a blister then it's not herpes. Yeah right....And the chances of passing it on valtrex is 10%...hhmm....I have not come across that 10% in all my readings but I do agree it depends on each individual. If Valtrex prevents you from having outbreaks you're good to go, if you keep on having outbreaks on it then of course you are more contagious.

i think it was worth it simply because this is a specialist saying oh hsv doesnt cause itching. and says oh hsv is very very painful and if it doesnt hurt then its probably not hsv. we all know that isnt true. but because they dont have it in their 'literature' then they dont believe it. it was worth it because it now confirms what i already knew: they dont know crap about hsv and WE are the best ones to identify it and determine what is working and is not working.

Of the 20 symptomatic acquisitions of HSV-2, 16 occurred among the 741 partners of placebo recipients (2.2 percent), as compared with 4 among the 743 partners of valacyclovir recipients (0.5 percent).

--->Found in this study. And note that they say some percentage of people did not always use condoms and did not always take their pill daily. That is the full study. Good luck reading that...lol

Page 20, table 7. So once again looks like it's 0.5% not 1%. Good for us!

10 percent chance of transmitting it? wouldnt surprise me actually. How many times did i have sex with her a million. and i got it way after we started. could be .000001 percent chance of getting it. I still got it :p its nice to know they know about as much as we do. thats um swell :p this is probably also why they dont regularly check for herpes. Everytime I look at people Im like hmm I bet they have herpes and dont even know it!
