First outbreak...false positive?
My dr didn't say if it was Igm or Igg, my dr looking at it didn't even think it was herpes...the person that I was with for a year and a half prior to the last person I was with has not had any issues and trust me when I say I would of heard about it from him. When I was breathing the wrong way I got accused if cheating so he would of come to me in a heartbeat about this if something showed up. I never cheated on him but he was always in the mindset i was. How long did your outbreak last for? Have you had more since?
80% of men that have herpes do not show symptomes. This man could have been carrying the virus for years and not know it.
Even though my first outbreak was mild it took a full 6 weeks before the redness went away and new skin appeared.
Two weeks ago (4 months after my first outbreak) I got a burning sensation and itchiness. It lasted a few days. No sores, just like little bumps under the skin that never broke through.
I am on daily antiviral.
So the Igg test is the bloodwork test? The Igm is the swab? The Igm can be wrong sometimes?
My first outbreak was done and over with in 6 days! Is that normal? None of this is making any sense to me. I just don't want to be taking this daily medication for nothing.
my first OB was over and done with in a week. It also was
not painful at all (genital proof of herpes as i call it :p) but i did have a fever blister in my mouth. that one sucked. i have type 2, go me
No Igm and Igg are both blood work but different technology. There are no test for herpes, the only way to know if you have it is to verify if you have the antibodies. If you have antibodies it means you are fighting the virus.
Yes you may have had a very mild outbreak. Maybe in the past you had outbreaks but you misinterpreted them for ingrow hair, feminine infections, etc.
The Valtrex has 2 purposes:
1. Control your outbreaks
2. Lower your risks to infect a negative partner
If your outbreaks are not painful and long, if you don't date or your partner doesn't mind getting it, then it's not necessay to be on Valtrex. You could always just have an emergency prescription in case on a weekend you end up with discomfort.
Herpes is not dangerous for your health. You do not have to take medicine if you don't want to.
I didn't have any bloodwork done just a swab of the area....I haven't had any sores in my mouth either.
My first ob wasn't painful at all either, I didn't get most of the symptoms that it said would happen the first time around. I got a swap test done about a month or so later it came back positive. I didn't want to believe it either. I haven't had blood work done just because I've had recurring outbreaks. They all happen on or around my gential area. So I probably won't get tested for the antibodies. I haven't taken meds either (not that I don't want to) so Im pretty sure I have it, just don't know which type.

My first outbreak was no bigger than a dime, did not hurt, did not burn, no fever, no pain what so ever...............still it was hsv2.
False positive are very rare. I have never heard of a false positive. False negative all the time. It can take up to 3 months for antibodies to build up in your system so yes, you can have herpes and get a false negative if you get the test too soon. False positive? nah! Sorry.
The old ways to test for herpes was an Igm test, now with the Igg it's more accurate but there are still doctors out there that are not so up to date with their testing and still order Igm testing. An Igm test can show positive because you're having an outbreak and show negative when you're not having an outbreak. If your Igg test says you're positive, you're positive.
